Mar 17-24 update: Retired NYST Zone Sergeant Kevin Kailbourne started the program in 1999 with two counties in western NY. It's grown to include all of NY and other states. It's more than noting obituaries, it's contact with families, funeral homes, cemeteries, preparing maps and maintaining a large data base. His wife Nancy has given more than we'll ever know in support of Kevin.
Prior to Memorial Day retired members, off duty NYSP members, civilian employees, and friends place refreshed flags on the graves. Ret. NYSP Sr. Inv. John Fallon has maps and cemetery information, providing logistical support. Financially the NYST Police Benevolent Assoc., The NY State Police Investigators Assoc. , The NY State Trooper Foundation, Several Chapters of the Assoc of Former NY State Troopers and individuals keep it going.
The term “Final Patrol” is used informally to indicate the passing of a former State Trooper. Note the word, “former”. Those who may not have served through to retirement are included for those who Honorable Served. The update 2024 list contains 5483 names. It was furnished by Kevin, and Kim Munch, who provides the much needed research and data base expertise.
It is requested that it not be reproduced in respect to those who have passed on. The data base may not be inclusive. Many have passed thru the doors of the NYST since 1917. An unknown number have been lost in the dust of time.
